Asuncion is the capital of Paraguay. Asuncion is the oldest city of South America. It was founded in 1537. It is located on the Paraguay River. It is also the largest city of the Paraguay with a population of 542,088. About 30% of the total population of Paraguay lives in Asuncion. Historically and geographically, Paraguay the Heart of South America, is among the 48 countries of the world that are landlocked. It is an old country who was declared independent in 1811. It is located in North America and shares border with Argentina, Brazil and Bolivia.

Despite being the largest city its area is only 117 km2 . Asuncion is the backbone of the economy of Paraguay. It is chief cultural and central industrial city of Paraguay. It is an industrial city with many industries like wood products, steel mills, sugar, textiles and cement. Cotton produced in the Asuncion is of world class and is traded to other countries. Other stuffs that are produced in Asuncion are soybeans, edible oil, meat, electricity, wood and leather. Despite being the industrial city Asuncion also offers many beautiful landscapes. Cerro Lambare is one of the most beautiful hill in Asuncion and great attraction for tourists.
