Kalahari desert is located in Africa according to the Kalahari desert facts in geography. Kalahari Desert is a large arid to semi-arid sandy area in Southern Africa, covering much of Botswana and parts of Namibia and South Africa. The area of Kalahari desert is 930,000 km2. The Kalahari supports some animals and plants because most of it is not a true desert.

Kalahari Desert Animals:

Brown hyenas, lions, giraffes, warthogs, jackals, several species of antelope (gemsbok, springbok, hartebeest etc.), meerkats and many types of birds and reptiles. These animals are considered as the last resort of African animals as most of the wildlife areas are depleting because of human activities and global environmental factors.

Kalahari Desert Plants:

Vegetation in the Kalahari consists of dry grassland and scrubby acacias. During the rainy season of the summer the grass thrives very quickly as it gets adequate amount of water. There are more than 450 vegetation species present in Kalahari desert. These species are plants flourish during rainy season mostly.
