Biggest Island By Population

Java is the most populated island of Indonesia and it is also considered as the most populous island of the world. Its population is about 135 million. The size of this island is 126,700 square kilometers. Java Island has a history of human habitation which going back about 1.7 million years. Initially this island was used for cultivation purposes because its land was very much fertile. People go for the plantation of rice in this land. In 8th and 9th century, the people living in Java were following two religions i.e. Hinduism and Buddhism. The first religion followed there was Hinduism and the people were the followers of Hindu god Shiva. There is an old Hindu temple of that time in java. In 9th century, people moved towards Buddhism. But, in 16thcentury, Islam became the most popular religion among the people. It overcame the other two existing religions.

The largest island of Indonesiaby size is Sumatra. It has the area of 425,000 square kilometers. It is considered as the sixth largest island in the world. There are almost ten provinces of Sumatra. For about 87% of the population of Sumatra is following Islam. Remaining of the population are Hindu, Christians and Buddhists.
